Aigio double death investigation: Forensic evidence challenges suicide theory

Authorities in Loggos, Aigio, are re-examining evidence in a high-profile double death case involving a 54-year-old woman, Maria, and her 26-year-old son, Olympios. The investigation is weighing two conflicting theories: a murder-suicide committed by the mother, or a homicide involving the 65-year-old Italian partner of the woman.

Forensic findings reveal that Maria sustained 34 stab wounds, including 11 to the chest and 15 to the abdomen, and traces of a strong sedative in her blood. While some investigators are exploring the possibility that the woman attacked her son—who died from stab wounds and a gunshot to the head—before taking her own life, experts have raised significant doubts. Forensic pathologist Dimitris Galenteris noted that the high number of wounds, particularly to the chest, is more characteristic of homicide than suicide. Criminologist Dimitra Tsitsi also questioned the likelihood of such extensive self-inflicted injuries.

The Italian partner, currently in custody, maintains his innocence, claiming he heard nothing during the night and discovered the bodies the following morning. However, investigators are questioning several inconsistencies, including the placement of the firearm, the nature of the wounds relative to the victim's handedness, and how the suspect remained unaware of the violent struggle and gunshot in an adjacent room.
