Aigio double murder probe finds no DNA link to Italian partner

Greek police are investigating the June 9 double homicide of 54‑year‑old Maria and her 26‑year‑old son Olympios in the village of Aigio. Toxicology tests revealed that the 65‑year‑old Italian partner of the mother had high levels of sedatives and cannabis in his system, supporting his claim that he was in a deep stupor at the time of the killings. No fingerprints or DNA of the Italian man were found on the victims, the kitchen knife or the murder weapon, and DNA from an unidentified person was recovered at the scene. Investigators are now analysing digital data from the victims' mobile phones, computers and a robot vacuum‑cleaner found in the home to pinpoint the exact time and movements during the crime. Testimony from the son’s girlfriend indicates the mother suffered psychological problems, secret alcohol consumption and severe financial stress, while the son had recently returned from Germany and expressed anxiety about his mother’s condition. The focus of the inquiry is shifting toward locating the unknown DNA donor and any other possible perpetrator.
