Aigio double homicide of Maria and son Olympios prompts funeral and police probe
On Tuesday, 54‑year‑old Maria and her 26‑year‑old son Olympios were brutally killed in their home in Aigio, Greece. The victims' bodies were discovered with multiple stab wounds; the son also suffered gunshot injuries.
Police have detained a 65‑year‑old Italian man, the partner of the victims, who is charged with the double homicide. He appeared before a magistrate for a hearing at the Aigio court on Saturday and was released on bail.
The community gathered at the Church of St. Demetrius in the Loggos district of Aigio for the funeral. Relatives expressed shock, with one saying, “Έπεσα από τα σύννεφα, δεν το πίστευα” (“I fell from the clouds, I could not believe it”).
Investigators continue to collect forensic evidence, including blood‑stained fingerprints on a laptop and analysis of the son’s wounds. Some family members have raised the possibility of a second perpetrator, noting that a witness identified by the relatives has appeared in the investigation.
