Aigio, Greece double murder of mother and son prompts psychiatric assessment

On the night of 9 June, a 54‑year‑old woman and her 26‑year‑old son were found dead in their home in Loggo, Aigio, Greece. Investigators are examining whether the mother killed her son before taking her own life.

A psychiatric report dated 28 May 2026 found the woman suffered from depressive symptoms that began about 2½ years after heart surgery, including low mood, reduced activity, sleep and appetite disturbances, occasional death wishes, and a long‑term history of alcohol abuse. No active suicidal or homicidal thoughts were identified. The report recommended hospitalisation, which she declined, and suggested entry into an alcohol‑detox programme and regular psychiatric follow‑up. Relatives and the woman's partner were informed.

The 65‑year‑old Italian partner, who lived with the woman, insists he is not involved in the killings. He claims the woman had two facial bruises from punches and alleges the son kept a knife in his bed. His statements are being investigated alongside the forensic evidence.
