Aigio, Greece double homicide investigation hampered by unknown DNA

Police are probing a double homicide in the town of Aigio, where a 54‑year‑old mother and her 26‑year‑old son were found dead in the son’s bedroom. The primary suspect is a 65‑year‑old Italian man who lived with the victims and has been charged with premeditated murder.

Forensic testing has not detected the suspect’s DNA or fingerprints on any of the samples collected. DNA belonging to the son was found under the mother’s nails, and DNA of both victims was recovered from the firearm used in the attack. In addition, investigators identified "DNA of a third, unknown person" on the weapon, a finding that does not match the Italian suspect.

No blood traces have been found elsewhere in the house, and authorities are examining other evidence such as a freshly cut section of the property fence and a nearby security camera that may have recorded movements on the night of the killings. The suspect denies involvement, suggesting alternative scenarios, while his defense lawyers argue that the unknown DNA could stem from prior handling of the weapon. The investigation remains open as further testimony and specialized laboratory results are awaited.
