Ain authorities dismantle clandestine shisha tobacco workshop

Customs officials in the Ain department have dismantled a clandestine workshop used for manufacturing and trafficking shisha tobacco. The investigation began in July 2026 after the interception of a package from Slovenia at an express freight center. The shipment, destined for a warehouse and company in the Pays de Gex, contained 30 kilograms of shisha tobacco.

Subsequent searches of the warehouse and the company's headquarters led to the seizure of 4 kilograms of shisha tobacco and over 2 tons of precursors, including glycerin, dyes, and fragrances. Authorities also recovered 2,400 empty individual containers ready for packaging, along with equipment used for indoor CBD cultivation. The investigation follows a similar operation in Oyonnax conducted in May.
