Air Astana to launch direct Almaty-Tokyo flights in 2026

Air Astana has announced the launch of direct flights between Almaty and Tokyo, scheduled to begin in late 2026. The inaugural service will depart Almaty on 30 November 2026, with the first return flight from Tokyo arriving in Almaty on 1 December 2026.

The route will operate twice weekly to Tokyo Narita International Airport using Airbus A321LR aircraft. Flights will be offered in both Business and Economy Class. The service will be operated in codeshare with Japan Airlines, building on an existing partnership between the two carriers.

According to CEO Ibrahim Canliel, the new route is a priority intended to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a central hub for the Central Asia and Caucasus regions while boosting trade, economic, and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Japan.
