AIR Campania Extends Bus Surveillance Service with Guardie Particolari Giurate After First Two Months

AIR Campania introduced a bus‑onboard surveillance service on 6 May 2026, deploying Guardie Particolari Giurate (GPG) after eight assaults on staff in the first four months of the year. In the May‑June period, only one further aggression was recorded, linked to a traffic‑related dispute.

During the same two months the GPG conducted checks on 1,490 of 4,211 rides and achieved full operational coverage in June, monitoring 44 % of 2,202 rides. Their presence allowed ticket controllers to work under safer conditions. Ticket checks rose to 48,922 passengers, a 33 % increase over the same period in 2025, and verbal reports increased to 1,109, up 35 % year‑on‑year. Fare evasion remains concentrated on specific routes, prompting plans for stronger monitoring.

On‑board ticket sales grew 24 % to €369,429, an increase of about €71,000, and total sales for the period rose by roughly €210,000 compared with 2025. The experimental phase, overseen by Regional Transport Vice‑President Mario Casillo, will be extended. Administrator Anthony Acconcia said the service protects staff, improves control activities and aims to foster a culture of rule‑respect among passengers.
