Air Europa adds weekly flight to Havana amid Cuba fuel crisis

Spanish carrier Air Europa will introduce an additional weekly service on its Madrid‑Havana route starting in July, raising the frequency to four flights per week. The airline said the schedule will be continuously monitored and could be expanded to six weekly flights by November if demand and operational conditions allow.

Because of the fuel shortage affecting Cuba’s José Martí airport, Air Europa will replace its technical stop in Santo Domingo with a refuelling stop in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The move comes as Iberia, World2Fly and Cubana de Aviación have suspended their services to the island, leaving Air Europa as the only Spanish airline still operating direct flights to Cuba. Ticket prices for the summer season now exceed €1,000 for round‑trip journeys.
