Air Europa inaugurates direct Madrid–Johannesburg route

Air Europa has launched a new direct service between Madrid and Johannesburg, operating three times per week with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline announced a codeshare agreement with South African carrier CemAir, allowing passengers to connect onward to Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth on a single ticket with through‑checked baggage.

South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, welcomed the route as a vote of confidence in the country’s tourism sector and a boost to economic growth, noting it aligns with the government’s Tourism Route Development Marketing Plan. The launch is part of broader efforts to improve South Africa’s global air connectivity, with LATAM Airlines also slated to begin direct flights between São Paulo and Cape Town next month.
