US Air Force Major Jason Watson charged for Trump criticism
U.S. Air Force Major Jason Watson is facing 10 criminal charges under the Uniform Code of Military Justice following his public criticism of President Donald Trump and calls for his impeachment.
The charges, formally issued on August 24, include three violations of Article 88 for allegedly making “contemptuous” remarks about the president, five violations of Article 92 for disobeying orders, and two violations of Article 133 for conduct unbecoming an officer. The Article 88 charges are considered rare and stem from a June interview with the Defenders of our Republic Substack, a July 1 protest at the U.S. Capitol where Watson appeared in uniform calling for the removal of Trump and Vice President JD Vance, and an August 17 interview with CNN.
Watson, a 40-year-old Air Force Academy graduate with 17 years of service, is currently in pretrial confinement. His attorney, Christopher Mutimer, stated that Watson acted knowing the potential risks to his career and liberty. During his CNN interview, Watson accused the president of violating the Constitution and engaging in corruption.
