Air India Crash Investigation Delayed as Engine Data Remains Incomplete
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has missed the one‑year deadline for the final report on the June 12 2025 Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad, which killed 260 people. Families and the Federation of Indian Pilots have criticised the bureau for lack of transparency and demanded a full report.
Investigators say the delay is caused by incomplete analysis of the aircraft’s left‑hand engine, with missing telemetry and damaged components that require specialised testing in the United States. Coordination with U.S. technical teams and the GE Aerospace engine manufacturer has further slowed progress. The AAIB may issue a status update in the coming weeks, but a final report is now expected in two to three months.
The preliminary report had indicated that both engines lost fuel shortly after take‑off, sparking speculation about pilot error or deliberate action, but it did not explain why the fuel switches were cut off. The ongoing investigation has raised public concern over safety oversight and accountability in India’s civil aviation sector.
