Air India crash survivor urges truth and support a year after deadly 2025 disaster
One year after the June 12, 2025 crash of an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner shortly after take‑off from Ahmedabad, the sole survivor, 39‑year‑old British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, has spoken publicly about the lasting trauma and financial hardship he faces. The accident killed 241 people on board and 19 on the ground, including 52 British nationals. Ramesh, who lost his brother in the crash, says he lives with “significant psychological scars” and receives only £21,500 from Air India, leaving his family on less than £1,000 a month. He has repeatedly sought a meeting with Air India’s chief executive and demands “honesty, transparency and answers” for all affected families.
Investigators have not yet released a final report. A preliminary finding by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau noted that both fuel switches were moved to the cut‑off position immediately after take‑off, stopping engine fuel supply. The civil aviation minister has said the investigation is in its final stage and a report is expected around the first anniversary. Families continue to await clarity on the cause and any measures to prevent a similar tragedy.
