Air India Flight AI-171 Crash in Ahmedabad One Year Later

On 12 June 2025 a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner operating Air India flight AI‑171 crashed shortly after take‑off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, striking the B.J. Medical College campus and nearby residences. Of the 241 passengers and 12 crew, 260 people died—including 19 on the ground—and only one passenger survived. The disaster prompted a massive rescue effort, with firefighters, disaster‑response teams and the Ahmedabad police K9 unit working for days amid fire, smoke and unstable debris. Tracker dogs such as Electric the Belgian Malinois and Tyson the Labrador helped locate the remains of seven to eight victims, aiding forensic identification.

A year after the tragedy, families of the victims continue to grapple with loss. The Khimani family of Dahinsara village in Gujarat’s Kutch district recounts ongoing grief for 35‑year‑old Anil Khimani, the last passenger to be identified on 27 June 2025 after DNA testing. Their story underscores the lingering emotional and practical hardships that survivors face a year after the crash.
