Air Serbia to launch new Niš routes to Vienna and Malta

Air Serbia has announced the introduction of new direct flight routes from Niš to Vienna and Malta, effective October 25, 2026. This move follows the decision by Ryanair to permanently suspend all operations at Konstantin Veliki Airport due to regulatory issues regarding fuel supply.

The new services will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Air Serbia will utilize ATR72-600 aircraft for the Vienna route and Airbus A319 aircraft for the Malta route. According to Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek, these flights aim to provide reliable connections to key European destinations and support the development of traffic at the Niš airport.

Local officials, including Niš Mayor Dragoslav Pavlović, stated that the state and the national carrier reacted quickly to ensure the city did not lose its direct air connections. While the new routes replace some of the capacity lost by Ryanair, some local political representatives have raised concerns regarding whether the transition from low-cost carriers to a national carrier will lead to higher ticket prices for passengers.
