AirAsia X suspends Kuala Lumpur to Sydney flights

AirAsia X has announced the suspension of its Kuala Lumpur to Sydney service, effective 25 October 2025. The airline cited increased cost pressures, softer demand, and the need for strategic fleet alignment as primary reasons for the decision.

As part of a broader restructuring within the AirAsia Group, the airline is accelerating a long-term aircraft strategy that involves retiring older, less fuel-efficient widebody aircraft. This move is intended to allow the company to focus resources on more sustainable and efficient routes.

While cutting the Sydney service, AirAsia plans to strengthen its presence in other Australian markets. The airline intends to increase flight frequencies for its Perth–Denpasar, Perth–Kuala Lumpur, and Melbourne–Kuala Lumpur routes. Specifically, Perth–Denpasar services are expected to increase to 35 flights per week from December 2026, and Melbourne–Kuala Lumpur is slated to return to daily service.
