Airbnb to donate 10 cents per stay to fund emergency housing

Airbnb has announced a new funding model to support its nonprofit, Airbnb.org, by donating 10 cents from the revenue of every completed stay. The company aims to contribute 500 million dollars over the next five years to provide free temporary housing for individuals in crisis.

The initiative seeks to help the nonprofit reach a goal of providing one million free nights of accommodation annually. Supported funds will be used to assist families traveling for medical treatment, survivors of domestic violence and exploitation, and veterans facing serious illnesses, in addition to disaster victims.

Airbnb.org operates by working with local nonprofits and government partners to identify those in need, providing them with credits to book stays. While guests stay for free, hosts are still paid for their accommodations. The company stated that this contribution will not increase costs for guests or reduce payouts for hosts, and no action is required from users to participate. The donation applies to completed stays and excludes canceled bookings, experiences, or other services.
