Airbnb Spain pledges $50 million for rural tourism, vows to follow rental regulations

Airbnb’s General Manager for Spain and Portugal, Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, said the company supports regulatory frameworks that enable data sharing with authorities and works closely with the Spanish Ministry of Housing and regional bodies such as the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Murcia and Andalusia. He added that Airbnb will adapt to any court rulings affecting short‑term rentals.

The platform reported first‑quarter revenue of $2.7 billion, an 18 % year‑on‑year increase, and expects to maintain this growth trajectory through 2026. Rodríguez highlighted travel trends in Spain, noting a 20 % rise in group trips, a 10 % rise in family trips, and that rural tourism now accounts for about 30 % of bookings, with reservations in rural areas up 177 % since 2019.

Airbnb announced a $50 million investment program aimed at developing rural destinations across Spain, positioning the funds to boost local economies and diversify its product offering beyond traditional home rentals.
