AIRC organizes cancer research fundraising in Reggio Calabria

Volunteers from the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC) will hold a fundraising event in Reggio Calabria on November 7 and 8. The initiative, titled “i Cioccolatini della ricerca,” will take place in Piazza San Giorgio on Saturday afternoon and Piazza Camagna on Sunday morning.

Participants can contribute through a minimum donation of 15 euros to purchase a 200g package of Venchi dark chocolates, or via free donations at volunteer gazebos. Chocolates will also be available at Banco BPM branches while supplies last. This event is part of the broader “Giorni della Ricerca” campaign running from October 28 to November 15, which aims to support 5,400 researchers across 96 Italian institutions and 779 research projects.

AIRC is the primary non-profit funder of oncological research in Italy, providing approximately 70% of total funds for competitive research. The organization notes that cancer mortality in Italy has decreased by 9% over the last decade, with roughly 50% of diagnosed individuals now able to achieve life expectancy similar to those never diagnosed.
