AISM fundraising campaign raises funds for multiple sclerosis research

The Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association (AISM) conducted its 'Mela dell’AISM' fundraising campaign from October 2 to October 4, involving 14,000 volunteers across more than 5,000 Italian squares. The initiative, which features chef Alessandro Borghese as a testimonial, aims to fund scientific research and local assistance services for those living with multiple sclerosis.

In San Roberto, the local Pro Loco organized a successful event where citizens contributed donations in exchange for apples. Similarly, in the Cosenza province, volunteers collected funds in various squares and near supermarkets. All proceeds are dedicated to supporting patients, many of whom are young adults between the ages of 20 and 40.

Multiple sclerosis remains a significant health challenge in Italy, affecting approximately 150,000 people with roughly 3,650 new diagnoses occurring annually. The disease is a leading cause of neurological disability in young adults and carries an estimated annual social cost of 6.7 billion euros.
