Aism promotes multiple sclerosis awareness and support in Italy
The Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association (Aism) is highlighting the challenges faced by those living with the chronic neurological condition, particularly regarding education and community support.
In Piacenza, the local Aism branch is launching a series of free informational meetings titled “Treating multiple sclerosis: from pathology to lifestyle.” The program, supported by the Municipality of Piacenza and the local health authority (Azienda Usl), aims to provide updates on therapeutic evolution, diagnostic criteria, and the importance of psychological and physical rehabilitation.
On a broader scale, Aism has issued an appeal to educators to better recognize the symptoms of multiple sclerosis in students. Data indicates that 70% of people with the condition experienced difficulties during their school years, and 86% faced challenges at the university level. The association warns that symptoms such as fatigue and concentration difficulties are often mislabeled as laziness, noting that nearly one in five diagnoses affects individuals under the age of 25.
