Akira returns to Brazilian cinemas with 4K remaster

The classic 1988 Japanese animation 'Akira', directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, is returning to Brazilian cinemas in late August to celebrate its 35th anniversary. The release features a 4K remaster, offering enhanced image quality and sound impact.

Originally released in 1988, the film is considered a landmark in the cyberpunk genre and played a crucial role in introducing Japanese anime and manga to Western markets. Set in Neo-Tokyo following a massive explosion, the story follows Kaneda and Tetsuo, members of a motorcycle gang, as Tetsuo develops uncontrollable psychic powers following secret government experiments.

The production is noted for its high technical standards, having been largely animated by hand. Its influence remains significant, having inspired various iconic works such as 'The Matrix' and 'Ghost in the Shell'.
