Akis Skertsos defends Greek economic growth and grid investment

Greek Minister of State Akis Skertsos has engaged in a political dispute with former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras regarding the country's economic performance and infrastructure investment. Skertsos accused Tsipras of spreading “lies and inaccuracies” concerning the revenue and investment levels of the power distribution operator, DEDDIE.

To counter these claims, Skertsos cited data indicating that grid upgrade investments have increased from approximately €400 million annually in 2019 to over €1.5 billion per year currently. He also noted that underground cabling of the electricity network has increased eightfold during this period.

Additionally, Skertsos highlighted a study from the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) published on VoxEU. The research, which compares Greece to nations like Italy and Spain, indicates that Greece achieved 10.8 percent real GDP growth between 2019 and 2025, significantly outperforming the benchmark group's 5.4 percent growth. The study also noted increases in total hours worked and a rise in the total investment rate, suggesting that public investments from the Recovery Fund have helped mobilize private investment.
