Akita City launches July 2026 street food and drink festivals

On July 18, 2026, Akita City will host the 10th "Akita Bar Street" event, a one‑day food and drink crawl covering central districts such as Yamano, Omachi, and the station area. Fifty participating venues – izakayas, restaurants, bars and cafés – will offer a "one‑dish, one‑drink" pairing. Tickets are electronic; pre‑sale costs ¥4,500 for up to five venues, with a ¥5,500 same‑day price, and the opening ceremony begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

Two days later, on July 20, the city will turn Hirokoji Street into a pedestrian‑only bazaar featuring around 70 stalls of food, sweets, local specialties and craft goods. Organized by the Akita Chamber of Commerce and other local groups, the "Hirokoji Bazaar" includes food trucks, a "Mali‑Mali" market and various entertainment activities, aiming to showcase regional cuisine and attract visitors.

Both festivals are part of a summer initiative to promote Akita’s local eateries, boost tourism and provide a communal gathering space for residents and travelers alike.
