Akmal Saleh Teresa Kok defamation lawsuit UMNO Malaysian High Court

A Malaysian High Court has ordered UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to pay RM300,000 to Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok following a defamation lawsuit. The total amount consists of RM250,000 in general and aggravated damages, plus RM50,000 in legal costs.

The lawsuit was filed by Teresa Kok in October 2024, alleging that Akmal made defamatory statements via TikTok in September 2024. The remarks reportedly questioned her knowledge regarding halal certification and accused her of opposing government policies on Islamic practices.

In addition to the monetary compensation, the court issued an injunction to prevent Akmal from making further defamatory statements against Teresa Kok and ordered the removal of the disputed content from all social media platforms. Despite the ruling, Akmal stated via social media that he does not intend to step down from his position.
