Danijel Trninić arrested after Čakovec shooting that injured two men

Early on Saturday, 4 July, a gunman opened fire on the parking area of the Podroom nightclub in the centre of Čakovec, Croatia. Two young men, ages 22 and 28, were seriously wounded. Both were taken to Županijska bolnica Čakovec, where they remain in stable condition and are no longer in life‑danger.

Police quickly identified the suspect as Danijel Trninić, a 42‑year‑old man from Siska who had previously served a prison sentence in Bosnia and Herzegovina for drug‑related offences. After the attack he fled the scene; an intensive manhunt tracked a car linked to him near a local gymnasium. He was later located in Slovenia, contacted through members of the criminal underworld, and surrendered to authorities, after which he was arrested.

The Međimurje police issued a public appeal, urging citizens not to approach the suspect and to report any information. The investigation continues, with motives still under review but early indications pointing to a dispute over drugs. All police forces in Croatia have been notified, and the case remains under criminal investigation.
