Michael and Cecilia Ibru University suspends Pro-Chancellor over academic title controversy
Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) in Delta State has suspended its Pro-Chancellor, Anthony Kila, pending an investigation into his academic credentials. The decision follows an investigation by Premium Times which found no evidence that a recognized institution awarded Kila the rank of professor. Kila, who has used the title “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development,” has rejected allegations of being a “fake professor,” maintaining that his credentials are legitimate. Following the controversy, the university removed Kila’s profile and photographs from its official website.
In a separate development within the Nigerian academic sector, Tansian University in Anambra State has established a five-man committee to investigate the sudden death of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carter Nnamdi Dike Umeoduagu. Umeoduagu passed away on Saturday, less than 24 hours after being formally inaugurated as the substantive Vice-Chancellor. The university is awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death and address concerns regarding potential negligence.
