Akwa Ibom Governor advances maritime projects and pension welfare
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State is advancing several key development and welfare initiatives. The state government has set a December 2026 deadline to commission the Oron Maritime Infrastructure Project. This coastal development is intended to serve as a commercial gateway for fisheries, tourism, and cargo movement, featuring facilities such as passenger and cargo jetties, warehouses, and a ferry terminal.
To support coastal connectivity, the administration has acquired two new ferries and expects a total of four vessels to operate on the Oron-Calabar route.
In terms of social welfare, the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Akwa Ibom has announced plans to endorse Governor Eno for a second term on October 30, 2026. The endorsement follows the administration's payment of over 100 billion naira in inherited pension and gratuity arrears. The NUP also intends to present the governor with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his administration's support for senior citizens, which includes the construction of a Senior Citizens Home and the provision of free medical treatment.
