Akwa Ibom Governor declares work-free day for President Tinubu visit
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has declared Friday, November 6, 2026, a work-free day to allow residents and civil servants to participate in a reception for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to commission several infrastructure projects, including the International Terminal Building at Victor Attah International Airport, an Aviation Village, an Airport Hospital, the ARISE Palm Resort, and various road extensions. Governor Eno stated the visit provides an opportunity to showcase development projects delivered by his administration and noted that a rally will be held in support of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
In a separate development, Governor Eno announced the recruitment of 4,000 new public servants to fill vacancies identified following a staff verification exercise. The exercise reportedly uncovered over 2,000 ghost workers and several retired individuals still on the payroll. The Governor emphasized that the recruitment aims to strengthen the efficiency of the public service rather than increase its size.
