Akwa Ibom Governor pledges support for National Integrated Power Project

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has pledged state government intervention to facilitate the completion of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) MI. The project is located along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis and aims to improve electricity supply within the state and contribute to Nigeria’s broader power sector.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Managing Director Jennifer Adighije identified the non-payment of wayleave compensation to affected communities as a primary obstacle. The project, which reportedly commenced approximately 20 years ago, has faced various challenges regarding community concerns and compensation.

Governor Eno stated that completing the 330kV transmission line is critical to the state’s industrialization drive and the provision of stable power. The state government intends to resolve these outstanding issues to ensure the project reaches completion.
