National Democratic Congress leadership race intensifies in Ghana

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is seeing increased activity as various candidates prepare for internal leadership contests. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a National Chairman aspirant, has called for the establishment of a formal welfare and exit structure to support former Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and party stalwarts who face financial and social difficulties after leaving office.

Several prominent figures have officially entered the race for the NDC National Chairmanship. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, a former Local Government Minister, has pledged to rebuild party structures and reconnect leadership with the grassroots. Nii Armah Ashitey, former Employment and Greater Accra Regional Minister, has also declared his intention to contest, emphasizing a vision for a more inclusive and participatory party.

At the constituency level, candidates are also mobilizing. In Ketu South, Deputy High Commissioner Bright Solomon Kumordzie has urged aspirants to focus on unity and development rather than personal attacks. In the Nabdam Constituency, John Adoku Abaah has pledged to strengthen the youth network and improve communication across all polling stations if elected as Youth Organiser.
