Zlatko Dalić appointed UAE national team head coach

Zlatko Dalić has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the United Arab Emirates national football team. The former Croatia manager, who led his country to a World Cup final in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2022, succeeds Cosmin Olăroiu. The appointment is expected to be a long-term project, with reports indicating a contract potentially lasting until 2030.

Dalić will be accompanied by a significant Croatian technical staff. Igor Bišćan has been named the coach of the UAE U-23 Olympic team, while Branko Ivanković will serve as a special advisor to the association. Other staff members expected to join include Danijel Subašić as goalkeeper coach, Vedran Ćorluka, Luka Milanović, and Marc Rochon.

The new management faces the immediate task of preparing for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and the Gulf Cup. A primary long-term objective is securing qualification for the 2030 World Cup. Additionally, the technical staff will oversee player selection, including evaluating foreign-born players eligible for UAE citizenship.
