Al Maktoum International Airport awards APM contract

A consortium comprising India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has secured a contract to design and build an Automated People Mover (APM) system for the first phase of the Al Maktoum International Airport expansion in Dubai.

Developed by the Dubai Aviation City Corporation and implemented via Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, the APM system will connect key areas within the airport. The project is being delivered on a turnkey basis, encompassing design, construction, supply, testing, and operational readiness. L&T will manage the procurement and integration of critical infrastructure, including guideways, power distribution, signaling, telecommunications, and platform screen doors.

The expansion is part of a larger plan to establish Al Maktoum International as the world’s largest airport. Once fully completed, the facility is projected to handle 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight annually, strengthening Dubai’s role as a global aviation and logistics hub.
