Al Maktoum International Airport APM project

The Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC) has awarded a contract to develop an Automated People Mover (APM) system for the Al Maktoum International Airport expansion. The project is being executed by a consortium including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), MHI Mobility Engineering Services (MHI-MESC), and the Indian engineering group Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

The driverless system is designed to be the world’s largest airport APM, featuring a 50-kilometre network with 165 vehicles connecting nine stations across the airport campus. The project is being delivered on a turnkey basis, covering design, procurement, construction, testing, and operational readiness. L&T is tasked with managing critical infrastructure such as guideways, power distribution, signaling, and telecommunications.

Scheduled for completion in December 2031, the APM system is intended to support the airport’s long-term expansion goals, which aim to facilitate the movement of 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight annually.
