Al Sharpton rejects defamation lawsuit threat regarding Nolan Wells death

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton and his legal team have rejected a pre-suit defamation demand from three friends of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old who died under unexplained circumstances near Mississippi's Horn Island.

The dispute follows Sharpton’s public calls for a more thorough investigation into Wells’ death, which occurred after he disappeared during a Fourth of July trip. Wells' body was recovered from the water two days after his disappearance, but officials have not yet established a definitive cause or manner of death.

Attorneys for Morgan Seymour, Jax Pitalo, and Warren Hudson allege that Sharpton’s public statements implied they were involved in criminal activity, including murder and evidence tampering. Sharpton’s lawyers have characterized the threatened lawsuit as “meritless,” stating that he has not accused the men of crimes but is instead seeking answers on behalf of the Wells family.
