Alabama overcomes Kentucky 45-17 in SEC opener

No. 12 Alabama overcame a difficult first half to defeat Kentucky 45-17 in their Southeastern Conference opener at Kroger Field. Despite trailing 17-13 at halftime, the Crimson Tide outscored the Wildcats 32-0 in the second half.

Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell struggled early with two interceptions and a fumble but finished with 188 passing yards and a touchdown. Running back Daniel Hill led the ground attack with 104 rushing yards and a touchdown. Defensive standout Luke Metz contributed a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown, while freshman Jireh Edwards made a notable return just 19 days after arm surgery.

Kentucky, led by quarterback Kenny Minchey, managed 209 total yards but was held to just 62 yards in the second half. The Wildcats' performance was hampered by four turnovers. Alabama moves to 2-0 on the season, while Kentucky falls to 1-1.
