Alabama faces extreme heat warnings and dangerous temperatures

Alabama is facing dangerous weather conditions, characterized by extreme and major heat risks across the state. The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued an extreme heat warning in effect through Monday, August 17, at 9 p.m.

Heat index values are projected to reach as high as 113 °F. The National Weather Service warned that this level of heat can be deadly for individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration, noting that extreme heat risks involving long-duration heat with little to no overnight relief are rare.

Forecasted heat indices for several counties, including Bibb, Fayette, Lamar, and Pickens, are expected to reach or exceed 110 °F. While the heat stretch continues, storm chances are expected to increase by mid-next week.
