Alabama Governor suspends dyed diesel fuel enforcement
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has ordered a 120-day temporary suspension of enforcement regarding dyed diesel fuel to assist the state’s agricultural and timber industries. The directive follows a sharp increase in diesel fuel prices, which Ivey noted has directly impacted these vital economic sectors.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has been instructed to adjust its enforcement priorities during this period. ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor stated that while the agency will implement the directive, it will maintain its focus on public safety and roadway security.
Additionally, Alabama Department of Revenue Commissioner Mary Martin Mitchell has been directed to request penalty relief for dyed diesel fuel from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The measure is intended to provide relief during the harvest season, which continues through November 15.
