Alagoas police seize weapons and rescue wildlife in environmental operations
The Alagoas Military Police Environmental Battalion (BPA) conducted a series of inspections across several municipalities between October 9 and 11. These operations, which included Onda Verde, Lagoa Segura, Fronteira Marítima, and Curupira, targeted environmental crimes and illegal firearms.
In Cajueiro, authorities discovered 76 wild birds held in unauthorized captivity, including various species of canaries and curiós. These animals were transferred to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). In Maceió, inspections at local street markets led to the seizure of 14 birds, which were sent to a wildlife triage center for veterinary care and rehabilitation.
Additional enforcement actions in Atalaia, Branquinha, and Joaquim Gomes resulted in the seizure of shotguns, ammunition, traps, and communication radios. In Joaquim Gomes, officers also recovered animal carcasses, including wild pigs and agoutis, alongside a parrot. Several individuals were processed by local security authorities following these findings.
