Alan Jones faces cross‑examination as accuser alters abuse testimony

An unnamed former athlete, one of six men accusing 85‑year‑old Australian broadcaster Alan Jones of indecent assault and sexual touching, changed details of his testimony during cross‑examination. The athlete admitted that his account of Jones pulling his underpants differed from the version given to police, saying the garment was only lowered a quarter of the way rather than to the ankles. He also could not recall Jones saying “I love you” before a kiss near the Fitzroy Falls farm pigsty, contrary to his earlier statements.

Jones, who pleaded not guilty to 22 counts covering alleged incidents from 2003 to 2020 across Sydney and the NSW Southern Highlands, was questioned by his barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC. Bashir suggested the athlete was fabricating his allegations to fit media reports, but the athlete denied lying, asserting he feared repercussions from the powerful broadcaster. The case remains in its fifth day of questioning in a marathon court hearing.
