Alan Jones faces first day of court trial on indecent assault charges in Sydney

Former Australian radio broadcaster and ex‑Wallabies coach Alan Jones, 85, began a marathon hearing at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney after pleading not guilty to 22 counts of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent.

Six complainants allege Jones assaulted or touched them between 2003 and 2020 at various locations in Sydney and the NSW Southern Highlands. Prosecutors say he groped the groins of two men while they were driving, groped two others at public functions, and kissed four complainants without consent, three on multiple occasions. Some victims faced repeated assaults, with eight charges linked to one alleged victim and nine to another.

Jones, who built a 35‑year broadcasting career at 2UE and 2GB and coached the national rugby team to a Grand Slam, has denied the allegations, stating he “never indecently assaulted these people.” He was arrested in December 2024 after a months‑long investigation and is represented by solicitor Bryan Wrench and barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC.
