Alan Jones faces trial as athlete testifies to assault allegations

Alan Jones, an 85-year-old former broadcaster, appeared in a Sydney Local Court as a prominent athlete testified against him. Jones has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges, including 20 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching without consent, involving six male complainants.

The athlete, referred to in court as Complainant M, testified that Jones allegedly kissed him on the mouth at an event in 2015 and later subjected him to unwanted physical contact at Jones’ Circular Quay apartment. The witness described a pattern of behavior where Jones used flattering language, such as calling him “beautiful man” and “special,” and sent him weekly flowers for several years.

This testimony marks the first time a complainant has appeared in person, as previous witnesses provided evidence via videolink. Jones maintains that the alleged incidents did not occur.
