Alan Jones trial for sexual misconduct enters second week

The sexual misconduct trial of veteran broadcaster Alan Jones has entered its second week at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney. Jones, 85, has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges, including 20 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching without consent. The allegations involve six male complainants who claim they were subjected to unwanted kissing or groping between 2003 and 2020.

One complainant, a former athlete referred to as “Complainant J”, testified that Jones allegedly grabbed his penis while driving him to a farm in the NSW Southern Highlands and kissed him without consent on multiple occasions. The court heard that the athlete had previously received financial support, including a car and a weekly stipend, from Jones. Witnesses, including the athlete’s brother and former girlfriend, provided testimony regarding the timing and nature of the disclosures.

The trial was recently paused due to a legal argument after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated it wished to amend part of its case. Judge Glenn Walsh adjourned the proceedings to allow the defense to seek instructions regarding the proposed amendments.
