Alan Jones on trial for indecent assault charges

Former radio broadcaster Alan Jones, 85, is being tried in the NSW Local Court after pleading not guilty to 22 charges – 20 counts of indecent assault and two of sexual touching – alleged to have occurred between 2003 and 2020. Six men, including a former champion athlete, have come forward. The athlete testified that Jones gave him weekly payments that rose to $600 and gifts such as a mobile phone and a car, totaling more than $110,000 over nine years, while also subjecting him to non‑consensual kisses and groping. He said he reported the abuse after Jones’ arrest in November 2024, describing it as “the right thing to do”. Jones’ defence, led by barrister Gabrielle Bashir, has cross‑examined the witnesses and continues to deny all allegations.
