Alan Jones to Face Trial Over Indecent Assault Claims Involving Younger Men

Former broadcaster Alan Jones, 85, has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges of indecent assault and sexual touching involving six complainants between 2003 and 2020. The Downing Centre Local Court trial is set to begin in August, with the Crown planning to call 76 witnesses.

Judge Glenn Walsh ruled that prosecutors may introduce "tendency" and "coincidence" evidence to show a pattern of behaviour, alleging Jones had a sexual interest in men significantly younger than himself. Alleged conduct includes touching genitals, buttocks or thighs and non‑consensual kissing, sometimes on first meetings. Incidents are said to have occurred at Jones’s harbourside apartment, his farm in Fitzroy Falls, a north‑shore restaurant and various Sydney functions and events.

The decision allows the prosecution to argue that Jones acted on a particular state of mind, linked to a power dynamic where he was an employer, mentor or benefactor. Jones was arrested and charged in November 2024.
