Alan Jones trial: Accuser denies financial exploitation claims

During the ongoing trial of former broadcaster Alan Jones at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court, the fifth and final complainant has testified against the 85-year-old. Jones faces 19 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching without consent involving five male complainants between 2003 and 2020. He denies all allegations.

The complainant, referred to as “A”, alleges that while he was 17, Jones kissed him and touched his buttocks at a property in Fitzroy Falls. “A” testified that he developed a friendship with Jones after reaching out for help due to his family’s financial hardships. The court heard that Jones provided over $100,000 to assist with home renovations, legal fees, and other support.

During cross-examination, defense barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC questioned whether “A” and his family intended to extract maximum financial assistance from the broadcaster. Bashir cited emails in which Jones stated he was “not a mobile bank” and that the financial support was becoming “out of hand.” “A” denied the suggestion that there was an intent to deceive Jones for financial gain.
