Alan Jones trial: Athlete testifies to non-consensual kiss
Alan Jones is standing trial in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court facing allegations of groping and kissing six male complainants. During the proceedings, a prominent former athlete testified that Jones kissed him without consent on the corner of his mouth at a sporting event attended by hundreds of people more than a decade ago.
The athlete, who remains unidentified for legal reasons, told the court he “can’t get it out of my memory” and described feeling apprehensive following the incident. He also alleged that in a separate instance at Jones’s Circular Quay apartment, the former talkback host pressed his genitalia against his thigh.
Under cross-examination by barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC, the complainant was questioned regarding discrepancies between his various police statements and his court testimony. While acknowledging differences in his descriptions of the event's positioning and his physical reaction, the athlete maintained that the incident occurred. Jones has denied all allegations.
