Gladson Cameli Senate candidacy denied by TRE-AC
The Acre Regional Electoral Court (TRE-AC) has unanimously denied the 2026 Senate candidacy of former governor Gladson Cameli. The decision is based on the 'Ficha Limpa' law, following a collegiate conviction by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) in May 2026.
Cameli was sentenced to over 25 years in prison for crimes including criminal organization, corruption, embezzlement, money laundering, and bidding fraud. The STJ also ordered him to pay approximately R$ 11.8 million in indemnity to the State of Acre.
While the registration was denied, Cameli may continue to campaign as a 'sub judice' candidate while his legal appeals are processed. His defense has appealed to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), arguing that the ineligibility should not apply without a final, unappealable judgment.
