Alanya hosts marine cleanup event for World Cleanup Day

To mark World Cleanup Day, Alanya Municipality, the Alanya City Council, and the Mediterranean Environment Platform organized a coastal and marine cleaning event at Soğuk Kapı Beach near Kızılkule. The initiative included participation from local SUP board businesses, Blue Flag tourism facilities, and the public.

A key component of the event involved participants using SUP boards to conduct practical exercises aimed at observing and removing microplastics from the sea. Using special fabric attached to fishing nets, participants worked to identify microplastic pollution to raise awareness about its impact on marine ecosystems.

Haydar Uyar, Deputy Mayor of Alanya, emphasized that the goal was to foster environmental sensitivity regarding the Mediterranean ecosystem. He noted that marine pollution is often driven by land-based factors and highlighted that microplastic pollution poses a significant threat to the future of Alanya and the Mediterranean.
