Alanya launches joint campaign to curb Mediterranean pine bark beetle

The municipalities of Alanya and the Alanya Forest Management Directorate have begun a coordinated effort to control the Mediterranean pine bark beetle, a pest whose population has risen with recent climate‑change‑driven droughts. Technical teams are deploying pheromone traps and conducting targeted pesticide applications, focusing on the species Orthotomicus erosus that damages pine trees.

In addition, dead or infested trees identified in the town centre are being swiftly removed and destroyed by the city's Parks and Gardens Department to limit beetle spread and reduce forest‑fire risk.

The operation aims to protect Alanya’s pine forests and curb the ecological and fire‑hazard implications of the beetle outbreak.
